Congratulations to our #1 2016 Golden Corral Franchisee
and Operating Partner-of-the-Year!

During the 2016 Golden Corral Convention and Trade Show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas over 1,000 attendees learned about Golden Corral’s plans for 2017, were entertained by Human Nature and received inspiring takeaways from presentations by Chester Elton (All In – How the Best Managers Create a Culture of Belief and Drive Big Results), Eric Chester (Don’t Settle for Engaged Employees When You can Inspire on Fire Performance) and Emmitt Smith, Pro Football Player and three-time Super Bowl Champion (Game On: Find Your Purpose, Pursue Your Dream).

The year’s most prestigious awards, Elite Twenty and Top Ten, were bestowed upon Golden Corral’s deserving franchisees and company operators during the Celebration of Operational Excellence awards ceremony. The 2016 top honorees were Franchisee-of-the-Year Eric Holm for his Kissimmee, FL, restaurant and Operating Partner John Cartmell of Erie, PA.

The Kissimmee restaurant earned a spot in the Elite Twenty 14 times, including Franchisee-of-the-Year in 2003 and 2015. General Manager Tim McDermott has led the Kissimmee team for the past five years. He manages a well-organized and guest-focused team who continue to build on their success each year. "You need talent and I do everything possible to retain my core staff," says Tim. "We work shoulder-to-shoulder to be the best."

Eric Holm, who has been named Franchisee-of-the-Year eight times previously, acknowledges, "In an area with high tourist traffic that has the capacity to seat over 5,000 guests, Tim continues to run a high-volume restaurant with impressive results in spite of the competition."

"Results like this are not just luck or location. It takes planning, and strong commitments to systems, talent, team, guests and community,” says David Webb, Division 1 President.

The 2nd place Franchisee-of-the-Year award was presented to Franchisees Mike and Shirley Petroline, and Director of Operations Joe Leary for their Glendale, AZ, restaurant operated by General Manager Kristi Hutchings. The 3rd place Franchisee-of-the-Year award was presented to Franchisee Mike Slentz for his Tifton, GA, restaurant. Fourth place was awarded to Franchisee Rick Holland for his Colorado Springs, CO, restaurant operated by General Manager Jason Pellegrin.

John Cartmell celebrates his first Top Ten award for his outstanding results in Erie, PA. John attributes his success to the excellent performance and attitude of his management team and crew. They strive to provide great-quality food with a strong emphasis on guest service.

"Erie's average InMoment overall guest satisfaction score is 67% and their average PDE score is 87%," says Division 2 President, Ken Houck. "Both their guests' feedback and our own internal audits show that people feel welcome and receive a great dining experience at the Erie Golden Corral. This team elevates the buffet!"

How this resonates into sales and profits is a great story in itself. John and his team increased meal counts by 3.6%, which is more than 13,700 additional guests and increased sales by 6%. This translated into an increase in restaurant operating cashflow of more than $175,000, for a total annual ROC of $875,694.

The 2nd place Top Ten winner was presented to Jerry Bulovas, Operating Partner of Pensacola, FL, and 3rd place was presented to Curtis Chapman, General Manager of Shawnee, OK.
